The One Where I Get a Dragon…

Hello Fancy!

I've been home for a whole week... sigh. It's nice, even though all the usual home things (greasy stove, dishes in the sink, laundry everywhere!) were here to greet me. My kiddos were also here, and my husband, and Charlie Taco, so even though I was tired and the house needed work, it still felt like coming home.

The kids are making the most of what's left of summer for them. We start school next week, so this is their last full week off. The big kid is working long shifts at the bike shop to try to bank some money -- he wants to buy a very expensive mountain bike! He's joined the mountain bike team, which pulls kids from the local schools for competitions all around the Denver area, so that will be an interesting new adventure for us all! It's been so great to see him really step up to the responsibilities at work and to finally find something he seems very passionate about!

My younger son has been home most of the summer, and I'm not going to pretend there hasn't been a lot more video gaming and youtubing than I'd like... but when you work full time, having kids home for summer is just a recipe for massive amounts of guilt over not being the right kind of parent. Luckily, I work at home, so I make a point of finding points where I can do stuff with him, or we can run out for lunch... it's not a lot, but it's what I've got. He has been saving money too, and doing research and mounting a campaign to convince us that he should get a bearded dragon as a pet. Last weekend we went to the exotic pets shop nearby and while I thought we were there for research, his questions to the shopkeeper were so well thought out and intelligent, I decided he was ready if he had the cold, hard cash. And he did. So now we have a tiny bearded dragon named Waffles. Lunchbox has been a really good pet parent so far, and I hope that continues, because I am not a reptile person and there is no way in h-e-double-toothpicks that I'm going to adopt anything without fur and big dopey eyes. Wish us luck!

"... a captivating romance, but it also has a subplot that gives it considerable depth and makes it memorable. It's highly emotionally and deeply affecting with a little mystery thrown in. I'm being cryptic on purpose, because I don't want to ruin any of the story. Don't miss Love Rebuilt." -- Harlequin Junkie Blog

Bro Code Hell

Living with my older brother’s best friend wasn’t even my worst idea lately.

Keeping it a secret from my brother was on the list too. Oh, and actually falling (literally) for Blaze Hellman—when every frown clearly said to stay away—was most definitely at the top of the list.

I was kind of a genius normally. I’d managed to graduate early and was about to open my own veterinary clinic in my home town of Hell. I clearly had my life together.

Until Blaze came back to town, moving slower than a sloth on crutches, more wounded emotionally than physically. We ended up bonding over stray dogs, exes from hell, and oddly enough, shared grief.

But helping him get his life back together could cost me my heart…and destroy his friendship with my brother. Will the heat between us create a situation that breaks all the bro codes?

Bro Code Hell is a steamy, romantic comedy between a wounded hero and his best friend’s little sister, complete with rescue dogs, annoying brothers, and a naked meet-cute. This romance ends with a hot, sticky sweet happily ever after.

Luck of the Draw

Life’s not a fairytale for women like me, divorced and creeping up on middle age…until a hot younger man finds my lost shoes.

Crashing weddings is so not my thing. I’d much rather stay home and watch HGTV . . . and ignore the fact that my life is messier than those fixer-upper houses. Because my jerk ex left, and the only thing keeping a roof over my sons’ heads is my crappy telemarketing job.

But then I get a challenge from the Bad Luck Club, the group I joined to turn my luck around: Do something that breaks the rules. One ill-advised confession to my best friend later, I’m strapping on a pair of heels and crashing the wedding of two of the owners of Buchanan Brewery.

The last thing I expect is to meet someone, let alone the sexy younger bartender who calls me out and finds my lost shoes, something straight out of Cinderella. And the very last thing I expect is to fall for him.

It feels like I’m in a dream come true, a fairy tale, but the crap part about dreams is that they have to end.

Or do they?

Charlie’s Corner

Charlie Taco was happy to have me home. He stuck close to my side all week and spent extra time smelling all the things on our walks, since the little boys are a bit impatient with him when they take over walking duties. He's at my feet right now as I type this, waiting for our big Saturday adventure, so I guess I better wrap it up!
